Theory in Action: Experimentation
This work examines how the mind creates meaning in a visual field. These visual explorations simulate a subjective experience and also question what we can (or can’t) know about reality or ourselves. In addition, the work focuses on miscommunication through word-play.
The first experiments were done in video form. However, video is not a true simulation of human experience because it does not incorporate the occurrence of randomness. Random events challenge our perception in ways video can not do. Most video is constructed as a narrative; it always plays the same beginning, middle and end.
To create a subjective visual experience that incorporates random occurrence, the Meaning Making Machine was produced.
